Why Happy Valley Nature Park Is Great for Babies and Toddlers

Let’s be real: most playgrounds are built for older kids — tall slides, tricky ladders, and high platforms that make parents hover like helicopters.

But Happy Valley Nature Park has something different to offer. It’s incredibly inclusive and toddler-friendly. Here’s why:

  • Gentle ramps instead of stairs make it easy for littles (and strollers!)
  • Wide, smooth paths are perfect for new walkers
  • Play structures avoid big drop-offs — safer for my fearless toddler
  • Inclusive toys mean kids of all abilities can join the fun

Park Basics: The Essential Info

The Three Playgrounds: What You’ll Find

Happy Valley Nature Park basically has three separate playgrounds — which means there’s something for every kid and every energy level.

Playground #1 — Near the Splash Pad, Skate Park, and Sports Courts

Upon entering the park, you’ll see Playground #1 first: nearest to the action. Perfect for a well-rounded park outing that everyone is sure to enjoy.

Nearby you’ll find:

  • A splash pad
  • Skate park
  • Family restrooms
  • Four basketball hoops
  • Two tennis courts
  • Picnic tables & benches
  • Ample shade

The playground equipment includes:

  • No swings here
  • 3 Slides and climbing structures for older kids

This area gets busy during peak hours, especially the splash pad on a hot day, but there’s tons of space to spread out.

Playground #2 — Near the Nature Walk

This one’s my toddler’s absolute favorite. It’s the largest playground at Happy Valley Park, inclusive, and packed with toddler-friendly features:

  • Restroom, covered gazebo, wheelchair charging station
  • Three large slides and a smaller double slide
  • Plenty of inclusive toys, including:
    • A boat ramp play structure
    • Musical instruments and interactive toys
    • A magical ball lever toy that spins and plays kid classics like Old MacDonald and Row, Row, Row Your Boat

My little guy spins that musical lever over and over and dances his heart out — it’s such a perfect sensory experience for my little dancer.

Note: The only playground in the park that has swings:

  • Three baby bucket swings
  • One inclusive swing
  • Regular swings for older kids

It’s also the most inclusive playground overall, with gentle ramps instead of stairs, soft ground instead of bark, and tons of sensory-friendly features.

Playground #3 — Near the Residential Neighborhood

Lastly, this is the mellowest of the three playgrounds:

  • Smaller space
  • Less equipment
  • Not super engaging for toddlers, but nice if you want a quiet spot away from the crowd or a place for older kiddos to have some fun.

It’s close to neighborhood paths for easy stroller walks.

Splash Pad

On hot days, the splash pad is the place to be!

  • Simple but fun spray features
  • Kids run back and forth between splash pad and playground
  • Benches nearby for parents to chill

Pro tip: Pack towels and a change of clothes. My toddler always ends up soaked!

Nature Walks & Wildlife

One of my favorite parts of the park is the peaceful nature walk. Here’s why:

  • Wheelchair- and stroller-friendly

  • Calmer areas like the nature walk are perfect for sensory breaks

But: If your child is sensitive to noise or big crowds, avoid sunny weekends or holidays. The park can get pretty loud and busy.
